Bloomington Remodel

A fresh start. It’s always so much fun (and sometimes a little scary) when starting on a new remodel project. Getting to meet new clients, learning how to work with new people, putting together a new layout, work in a new space, deal with new neighbors and city ordinances, and all the unknowns that come with any major remodel.

It’s kinda exciting to think about it all. But best of all, we get to once again help design spaces in someone’s home, where they can create a lifetime of memories. Especially with this couple…

It’s their beginning. These clients came to us from our lovely friends at Roost Real Estate. We met this couple right after the purchase of their new home.

This couple bought their home in hopes to remodel and make it their own just a couple months before becoming newlyweds. So it’s pretty cool that we get to be a part of creating their first home together.

After the first couple interactions with these guys I told Jamie I think, yet again, we’re about to have the best clients ever. They have been nothing but a joy to work with and make decisions FAST. I love quick thinkers.

We initially met and went over their style, their wants for the space, what they like and don’t like, and we got to design planning. Once we got drawings and finishing selections picked out, we met and, no joke, within 20 minutes we had the entire space picked out.

It was incredible. We were fully ready to start the remodel.

DESIGN PLANNING

Our clients weren’t entirely sure what to do with the space but the one thing they knew was that they wanted to open up the floor plan.  But they weren’t sure where to put the fridge nor did they want to lose any additional storage space. That’s where we came in!

The space is a little smaller with an opening to the dining room and an opening overlooking down onto the stairs to the basement. So to be able to take down a wall and not lose a ton of storage we said we needed to put up a wall somewhere else.

We recommended putting up a wall overlooking the stairs and moving the fridge and adding in additional countertop space and storage. We also recommended going with light and bright finishes such as white cabinets, quartz countertops, light (yet detailed) backsplash, and warm hardwood floors. And they were on board with it all.

Here’s a breakdown of the brands and selections we’ll incorporate into the new design.

Countertops | Cambria Quartz, Praa Sands
Cabinetry | cliqstudios, Painted White & Cambridge Style
Flooring | WD Flooring, Aschenbrenner
Backsplash | Mercury Mosaics
Lighting | Bellacor
Paint | Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore
Sink | Elkay, Quartz Luxe Charcoal
Faucet | Elkay

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Like any home remodel project you just don’t know what’s going to happen until you start taking down walls. Unfortunately, for this space, once Jamie opened up the wall he had some hesitations with removing the wall completely.

That put our project on a little hold.  We had an engineer come out and he recommended that we put up a couple posts on the sides of the island.

This meant we had to draft up new plans, have him sign off and resubmit to the city to get the sign off to continue to move forward. We just got the green light last week so we are back to work on this project!

Cabinets will be delivered next week, so it’s crunch time to get this place back into shape.

We’ll be sharing a lot of this transformation over on our Instagram stories so make sure to hop over there and check it out if you’re interested.

Can’t wait to share more details with you guys as we transform this space and help make this a dream home for these newlyweds.
