Our DIY Trundle Day Bed- Pottery Barn Inspired

Happy Wednesday! Since we are pretty much done with the bigger things on the house we are back at our projects again. Today we are sharing our latest project, Pottery Barn inspired Trundle Day Bed. Trundle beds provide an extra bed for a room or help to add more storage space. Kevin & Carol asked Jamie to build a trundle bed for their office at their cabin for some extra sleeping space when needed. Carol’s inspiration had come from a trundle bed she had seen at Pottery Barn but Jamie was able to make this bed for them for a fraction of the cost.

Jamie created a low bed on wheels that is stored under another bed, however if Carol needs some extra storage space she could remove the bed within the trundle and use it for more storage. trundle day bedBy having a trundle day bed you are able to double a rooms sleeping capacity without eating extra space within the room.

Depending on the size of mattresses going on and within the bed would vary the size of the day bed you would want to make. This trundle day bed was being built for a twin size bed so the bed was built 16″ high, 80″ wide, and 40″ deep. Trundle Day Bed Measurements DIY

Jamie was able to make this bed out of 5 materials: plywood, paint, knobs for the false drawers, wheels for the trundle, and nails. trundle day bed

Jamie added false drawers to the front and the sides of the bed to create a nicer look. It took 3 coats of paint, while sanding in-between.

We are so happy with how it turned out, we hope Kevin and Carol love it as much as we do! It’s all set up at the cabin and ready for visitors this summer! It goes perfectly with the desk that they bought at Pottery Barn. We can’t wait to see it in person.
