How We Transformed Our Most-Used Bathroom with Lighting, Fixtures, and Paint Updates

There’s something about the rooms you walk past a dozen times a day. They quietly tell you when they’re ready for a change. Our main-level guest bathroom had been feeling that way for a while. We remodeled it once years ago, so the bones were good, but the energy was off. The finishes felt mismatched, the colors didn’t match where the rest of our home’s style has evolved. Moreover, with so many people using this bathroom every day, it deserved a refresh that actually reflected how hardworking it is.

This is the kind of project that makes you appreciate the power of thoughtful updates. No demo. No plumbing changes. Just a weekend, a bold paint decision, and the right pieces from Ferguson Home.

Why We Love Working with Ferguson Home

We work with Ferguson Home constantly on client projects, remodels, new builds, and in our own home. It’s our trusted resource because everything is under one roof: plumbing fixtures, lighting, hardware, appliances, design guidance, and quality-backed brands. When we walk into a Ferguson Home showroom, we know we’ll find the right combination of function, technical quality, and beautiful design.

In our Lorien Home project, we talked about how Ferguson Home’s showroom consultants helped us dial in performance without sacrificing aesthetics. The same philosophy applies here. Bathrooms are a mix of design and engineering, and Ferguson Home excels at both. Their team understands the little things that make a space feel polished – solid finishes, well-made hardware, thoughtful lighting, cohesive collections. When we source from Ferguson Home, we know the pieces will look good, last, and work together well.

For this refresh, their brushed-gold Signature Hardware fixtures, faucet, and Minka Lavery lighting provided exactly the kind of warmth and consistency this moody space needed.

Why a Refresh Made More Sense Than a Remodel

Even as builders and designers who renovate for a living, we’re the first to say that not every space needs to be taken down to the studs. This bathroom wasn’t outdated. It wasn’t dysfunctional. It just wasn’t speaking the same design language as the rest of our home anymore.

The tile was still in great shape. The vanity had plenty of life left. The layout worked. What it lacked was cohesiveness.

Instead of replacing things that weren’t broken, we focused on:

  • One bold paint color to unify the space
  • Consistent metals to eliminate visual noise
  • Upgraded lighting to shift the ambiance
  • High-quality brass fixtures that would feel intentional against a darker palette

This approach is something we talk about a lot at construction2style: start with what’s working. Enhance what isn’t. Save your remodel budget for the changes that actually move the needle.

The Fixtures That Brought It All Together

Ferguson Home’s selections made this refresh feel polished. Every piece aimed to solve two things: function and aesthetic continuity.

Signature Hardware Towel Hooks (Set of Four)

We installed four hooks to accommodate daily use and guests. These have clean, modern lines and a substantial weight that feels well-crafted. Against the dark paint, they bring a warm contrast that looks intentional instead of distracting.

Signature Hardware Toilet Paper Holder

Simple, streamlined, and classic. It disappears into the design in the best way while still adding a touch of sophistication.

Signature Hardware Faucet

We love this fixture because it brings together form and function in the kind of way you don’t get with just any plumbing. From the weight in the handle to the smooth flow of water, it feels intentional and built to last. In our bathroom it doesn’t just plug in a sink. Without a doubt, it elevates the entire vibe of the room. It’s a small detail that changes how the space feels: polished, considered, and timeless.

Signature Hardware Tank Lever

This is the detail most people overlook, but one of the fastest ways to modernize a bathroom. Swapping a standard chrome lever for a brushed-gold piece makes the entire toilet feel like part of the design instead of an afterthought.

Minka Lavery Lighting in White and Gold

Lighting is often where a room comes alive. This fixture brings a soft glow with a white shade and a refined touch of gold detailing. It complements the saturation of Raisin without overpowering it. Good lighting is one of the most important components of a successful bathroom design, and this piece balanced warmth and clarity beautifully.

How We Pulled Off the Entire Refresh in a Weekend

If you’re looking for a realistic timeline to follow, this is exactly how our weekend unfolded.

Friday Evening: Prep and the First Coat

We emptied the space, removed the existing fixtures, lightly sanded the trim, patched small imperfections, and rolled on the first coat of paint. Prep work is never glamorous, but it sets the tone for everything else.

Saturday Morning and Afternoon: Paint, Trim, and Touch-Ups

We applied the second coat, painted all the trim and the door, and let the room fully dry. Color drenching takes commitment because you’re painting every surface, but it’s worth the slower process.

Saturday Late Afternoon: Fixture Install

Once dry, we installed the four towel hooks, the TP holder, and the brushed-gold tank lever from Ferguson Home. These pieces went in quickly and instantly made the room feel grounded and cohesive.

Sunday: Lighting and Styling

After installing the Minka Lavery fixture, the room shifted in an instant. The lighting softened the deep color, highlighted the brass accents, and gave the space the exact warm glow we wanted. Fresh towels, a few intentional accessories, and a clean layout completed the transformation.

Color Drenching in Sherwin-Williams Raisin

The turning point for this bathroom was paint. We chose Sherwin-Williams Raisin, a sophisticated plum-brown that feels warm, understated, and grounding. Instead of using it on just the walls, we color-drenched the entire space: walls, trim, baseboards, and the door.

Color drenching works because it removes the visual breaks that can make a small bathroom feel choppy. When everything is the same color, the room feels bigger, calmer, and more intentional. Raisin has a depth that reads differently throughout the day, warm in natural light, dramatic in the evening, which made it the perfect backdrop for brushed gold metals.

This is also the quickest way to elevate a room without structural change. Paint everything the same tone, and suddenly the fixtures feel curated instead of random.

Why We Continue to Choose Ferguson Home

Working with Ferguson Home feels like working with a design partner rather than a supplier. They understand how homes function and what details truly make a difference. In the Lorien Home, their appliance guidance helped us create a kitchen that performs at a high level while looking elevated. In this bathroom refresh, their fixtures delivered consistency, quality, and quiet sophistication.

Whether we’re designing for a client or updating our own home, Ferguson Home is where we go when we want:

  • Reliable product quality
  • Cohesive finishes
  • Brands we trust
  • Design support that understands the bigger picture
  • Options that match a range of styles and budgets

This bathroom was a small project, but it benefited from the same level of thought and detail as our large renovations. Good design doesn’t depend on square footage. It’s about choosing the right pieces and creating a clear, consistent story within the space.

This refresh gave our most-used bathroom a new identity without the disruption of a remodel, and Ferguson Home played a major role in bringing that vision to life.
