Spread the love.

Looking to incorporate some vintage pieces into your home? Summer is the perfect time to get outside and go antiquing. It can be overwhelming to go to your first thrift shop or flea market. With so many people and items, it’s easy to lose sight of what you initially came for. You don’t want to end up like me at my first antique fair. I had $20 in cash, no bags, no bubble wrap, and a small car. I ended up coming home with a set of plates that I never used (or even liked), but I just had to buy something. Knowing what it is that you’re looking for, and sticking to the plan, is key to making sure you leave with the right things to compliment your home, and not just things to fill your cupboards.

Have Cash on Hand

Some antique fairs will only accept cash, but credit cards are becoming more accepted. In order to stay within your budget, stick to cash because when it runs out, you’re done. Buying something on a card may lead to some purchase regret.

Bring A Buddy

This will give you an extra hand lifting the heavy items, but also give you another set of eyes to see if a piece is really necessary or will actually fit in your space. Be careful though, they may snag all the good deals before ya!

Come Prepared

Take measurements of your home before you go and make sure you know what space you have to work with. If you have a specific piece of furniture you are looking for, bring a tape measure along so you can guarantee it will fit your space. Bring bags to put your items in, bubble wrap for delicate items, and clean out your car beforehand so you can that incredible chair.

Visualize It

Can you see the item in your home? No? Then you probably don’t need it. If it’s something you’ve been searching for for awhile, would fit in your space, and is within your budget, get it!!
