Chalkboard Frame

Spread the love.

Chalkboard paint is the bomb! I love it. Once you buy it, you will want to start painting all of your walls with it…unless your husband stops you, like mine. One of the first things Jamie and I made was a…wait for it…A Chalkboard!! It’s easy, super cheap, and fun!

You can find chalkboard paint at almost any craft or hardware store. I bought this chalkboard paint at Home Depot for $9.67, and it will last forever. I just used the basic black for my chalkboards below. If you are looking for a perfect color you can easily make your own. To make it you combine 1 cup latex paint in your desired shade with 2 tablespoons of unsanded tile grout and mix.

We cut a piece of pallet board into four even pieces, cutting the ends at angles to align with one another.

We used a biscuit jointer to create holes in the sides of the angles, make sure that these holes coincide with the holes on the other pallet board (if you are not familiar with a biscuit jointer, I would suggest just simply gluing or nailing the boards together). Put wood glue into these holes, place the biscuits in holes, and squeeze boards together.

We cut a piece of plywood to fit inside the frame and painted it with 3 coats of chalkbaord paint. Or if you are using an old frame you could paint the piece of material the frame had in it.

Jamie used a router to indent the inside of the frame.

A router engraves the inside of the frame so that you can place the chalkboard nicely into the frame. If you don’t have access to a router, you can just staple the chalkboard onto the back of the frame.

That’s it! Great idea for an easy, inexpensive and nice gift as well!
