What better Christmas gifts than homemade ones?

This summer my mom showed me a West Elm catalog and said, “Isn’t this so neat?” and showed me a picture of an old hutch. I couldn’t believe it retailed for $999! I knew there was no way I could afford that for her. When Christmas was approaching I couldn’t think of any better gift than that hutch, so I thought…Jamie! Let’s make it!

He picked up some old pallets from work and went to Menard’s and picked up some materials. We spent an entire Sunday at his parents’ workshop hammering away. We had a blast! Once assembled, we weren’t sure how to get that old, shabby chic look.  Jamie’s dad suggested torching it, so that’s what we ended up doing. And here it is. Merry Christmas, Mom!
