DIY Easter Egg Coloring Ideas

Spread the love.

I love Easter time! It’s such a fun holiday, especially for our littles. And I’ll never forget how fun and special my mom and dad made Easter feel for my brothers and I.

It always seemed the sun was always shining, the snow was melting, I got to wear a new fun dress (of course) with a hat. My mom always brought out the “Easter” tree that we decorated with mini wooden eggs, we went to church, had good food and we got to spend the afternoon hunting eggs and finding our BIG basket loaded with goodies…which was obviously my favorite part.

My parents always made this holiday feel special and I hope to carry that down to our kids.

Our little dudes love anything and everything that involves paint and coloring, so they really love decorating Easter eggs. We tried to follow Oh So Beautiful Paper’s tutorial on DIY Modern Color- Blocked Easter Eggs this year.

Hers look a lot better than ours, but we still love how they turned out!

Such a simple and fun way to color the eggs, and I think my friend Katie and I had more fun than our kids did. And they make for some pretty fun decor!

We used a combination of real, organic and faux eggs. It was nice to give the littles the faux ones to play and color with (which we picked up from the $1 section at Target) and not have to worry about them cracking.

The faux ones didn’t take the dye as quickly as the real ones though. So we left the majority of the faux for the boys to color on with markers.

And we loved how the organic eggs gave a more fun look to the white color eggs.

Greyson and Beckam had a blast using the Color Whip Egg Decorating Kit. This much fun just for $3!

And to create these modern blocked design eggs we just got the original Easter Egg Coloring Kit, mixed the dye with water and vinegar and placed the dye into small mini cups. That way we could place the egg into the cups without submerging the entire egg, and leave it there for awhile to absorb the color.

Then we took it out, let it dry, turned it over to another side and put it into another cup of dye, again, not submerging the entire egg.
