We are so pumped to show you guys the final reveal of one of our latest kitchen remodels.

A couple of years ago these clients hired us to finish off half of their basement, adding in a bedroom and bathroom and now this year we helped them remodel their entire main level. Phase three they’re talking about blowing the roof off and adding in a little addition. It’s going to be fun someday to say that we helped them renovate their entire dream home.

This family bought their home a handful of years back. They quickly fell in love with their neighbors and community, and they knew that there was nowhere else they’d rather be. Little by little they’ve been recreating and making this home into their dream home where they’ll be able to raise their babies in and not have to move. And we couldn’t be more thankful that they keep asking us to help them get creative in their space.

This project was out of the ordinary that we typically do because well, it was for our family. So they managed a lot of it on their own, and we gave them the resources that they needed to get the job done and came in to do the work when they needed us. Which also meant we started this project in June and are wrapping up next week, fingers crossed. However, we probably would have been done by now… but if any of you have done a remodel, you know one project always leads to another. So now Jamie is moving his way upstairs and hanging new doors and re-trimming the upstairs of their home, haha!

So let’s rewind back to the fun part first, the before…

Before

The first thing these guys wanted to do was take down the two walls that separated the kitchen from the dining room area and living room. To take these walls down and be able to reconfigure the kitchen we needed to have a couple of walls for cabinetry.

So we closed off the wall where the railing was looking down onto another living room area.

And then being the entire east side wall of this home had windows and sliding glass doors, we flip-flopped the window and sliding glass door and created a smaller window for above the sink.

After that, it was a complete gut and remodel. New cabinetry, countertop, sink, flooring, lighting, windows, doors, trim, appliances, backsplash, you name it.

Under Construction…

There’s always some surprises when demo’ing a new space. And in this space under the linoleum just in the kitchen area, we found a layer of tile that hat been covered up. Jamie and Topher said it was incredibly hard to get up. They used a jack-hammer and scraped it for days. It was so hard because the former homeowners had tiled it onto a plywood underlayment and then nailed it down. So the guys ended up scraping the tile into a million pieces.

Once the space was demo’d and cleaned up, it was time to get the new layout reconfigured.

As you can see, we moved the patio door on the right down to the far left and brought in a small window for above the sink and put it where the patio door once was. We also added in a big pantry, as this was another must haves for these guys.

And then there was the best day… when the countertops and sink go in. This is the day when everything comes together in your remodel and you finally know that the end is near.

After

These guys wanted a clean, light, and bright space! So white, white, white it was! White cabinetry, white subway tile backsplash, light countertops, but we did a charcoal sink.

We also finally got to partner with our friends JKath. We were SOOO excited! These guys did all of the custom cabinetry for this remodel. They do such great work, and we’re continually amazed by their talents. They went with Simply White by Benjamin Moore on the cabinetry and adding some beautiful bronzed charcoal pulls from Top Knobs.

For the sink and faucet, we went with a charcoal Elkay Quartz. Another piece I’ve wanted a client to incorporate! Being these guys were all about the white I loved that they went with a darker sink in the Elkay luxe line to pull out the warmer tones in the countertop.

The sink was Elkay’s Charcoal double bowl undermount sink. We had the opportunity to fly out to Chicago this past summer and see firsthand how Elkay makes its products. And it was probably the best Chicago experience we’ve had. There are so many great things to say about these guys, and honestly, they’re the only sinks we’ve been recommending to our clients to put into their remodels.

The Elkay Quartz Luxe sinks are exceptionally tough and silky smooth. We had the chance to feel them being made right in the plant. They also come in a variety of neat colors that make a big statement. I’ve always been one to push the stainless steel, but since working with the charcoal color and quartz line, it’s my new favorite. And best, it hides the dirty food!

Our favorite thing about these sinks, they have a hygiene protection, microfine quartz material is nonporous; ultra smooth surface repels dirt, food, liquid and stains; prevents the spread of bacteria. Which I know is important to this family because they are all chemical free living. They’re also quiet; the material is naturally sound-deadening to minimize sound and vibration for a quieter time at the sink. And they have deep bowls, high-capacity bowls offer more room inside for stacking dishes, filling stockpots, and handling large baking sheets and roasters.

We are putting this same faucet into our kitchen remodel this upcoming fall. It’s their Avado Semi-Professional kitchen faucet. The Avado faucet collection by Elkay has clean, sleek and modern lines. These sinks and faucets are sure to be a show stopper for guests. They feature pull-out and pull-down sprayers that make tasks a little more effortless. We also complimented the faucet with a Elkay Soap Dispenser in brushed nickel. That’s also a cool thing about Elkay, they have all the accessories you need to compliment your kitchen sink.

For the countertop, they complimented the cabinets with Cambria Quartz, Brittanica. It is such a beautiful piece…subtle, yet makes such a wow factor. And the pendant lighting came from Build.

So there it is. A whole lot of kitchen happiness! As always, thank you to our rockin’ family for trusting and hiring us for the job. They did such a great job managing this project, and we’re always just happy to be able to give a helping hand. Jamie will be wrapping up the trim this week and we can’t wait to blow the roof off this house someday.

And of course, styling day is another one of my favorite days. Thanks to our girl Chelsie for capturing all the shots.

And if you’ve seen our Instagram stories, you know we’re about to recreate our kitchen space and the top thing I’m looking forward to is incorporating a large Elkay sink. I can only fit two plates in our sink, and it’s full. No joke. So we’re starting demo on our very own kitchen this week, so make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel to follow the process as we start transforming the space. First video with the before and walking you through the design will be live tomorrow.
