We repainted our primary bedroom this spring, and somewhere between picking paint swatches and actually finishing the room, I said something out loud that I now can’t stop thinking about: “What if the bed was just… bigger?” If you caught our first round of this primary bedroom refresh with Slumberland Furniture, you know this room has been a slow, intentional work in progress, and this is the next chapter.

So, What Exactly Is the SlumberKing?

The SlumberKing is a Slumberland-exclusive bed. You genuinely can’t find this exact setup anywhere else. It’s about 108 inches wide, which is roughly 40% wider (almost three full feet!) than a standard king mattress. For context, most people search this size online as an “Alaskan king bed.” It’s that oversized, wall-to-wall category of mattress that’s become a bit of an internet obsession lately (if you’ve seen those viral “we upgraded to the biggest bed in the world” videos, this is that size). Slumberland’s version comes as a complete bundle:

• Your choice of three comfort options: firm tight top, medium tight top, or medium pillow top
• Two bed frame options to build it on
• An adjustable base (yes, with built-in under-bed lighting for 2 a.m. bathroom trips)

We went with the medium tight top mattress paired with the Grayton bed frame, and full-service delivery and setup was included, which, as a mom of three mid-renovation, I will never take for granted.

Why the Grayton Frame

Slumberland gave us the choice between the Captiva and the Grayton, and the Grayton just fit the vibe we were going for in the new room. It’s clean, a little bit warm, and doesn’t compete with the wall color (which, side note, might be my favorite paint color we’ve ever used in this house). The frame reads as the anchor of the whole room now, which is exactly what you want out of a bed this size. It needs to feel intentional, not like it’s just swallowing the space.

Delivery Day: Bigger Than We Expected (in the Best Way)

The SlumberKing shipped straight from Slumberland’s warehouse, and their team handled the entire delivery and setup. If you’ve ever tried to wrangle a king mattress up a staircase, multiply that stress by zero, because we didn’t have to lift a finger. They brought it in, built it, and left us with a bed so big I genuinely laughed out loud the first time I saw it fully set up in the room.

Living With an Oversized King: The Real-Life Review

Here’s the part I actually care about sharing with you, because anyone can tell you specs. I want to tell you what it’s like to actually sleep in this thing.

I didn’t think a bigger bed would make that much of a difference. I was wrong. It doesn’t just change how you sleep. It changes how the whole room feels. Our bedroom went from “the room we sleep in” to what I can only describe as a true oasis. I feel like we’re sleeping in a boutique hotel every single night, and having that much extra space has genuinely changed our mornings and our nights.

And let’s be honest about the reality of our house: between three kids and a bed that doubles as the family hangout spot most mornings, extra square footage isn’t a luxury for us. It’s survival. The best proof of concept, though? We hosted 50 family members at our house one weekend not long after the SlumberKing was installed, and every single one of them found their way into our bedroom to check out the bed. Is an Oversized King (or “Alaskan King”) Bed Right for You?

If you’re a family that piles into one bed on weekend mornings, a couple who just wants more room to stretch out, or you simply love the idea of an adjustable base with all the bells and whistles, the SlumberKing (or an oversized king / Alaskan king mattress in general) is worth serious consideration. A few honest things to know going in:

• Measure your room first. At 108 inches wide, this bed needs real square footage. It’s nearly three feet wider than a standard king.

Final Verdict

The SlumberKing turned our primary bedroom into the best room in the house, gave our chaotic, kid-filled mornings a little more breathing room, and somehow made an entire family reunion revolve around a bed. I wasn’t expecting a mattress to be a personality, but here we are.
