Spread the love.

Wahoooo! Get excited people- details behind our latest kitchen renovation coming your way.

Before and after posts are our favorite. If you follow us on SnapChat (c2s_molitor) or Instagram, you’ve seen all of the fun behind this project. Do you remember the beautiful natural hardwood floors we found under five layers of tile?! Well, my friends, this is that kitchen.

Our wonderful friends purchased this home in South Minneapolis. After they closed on their home late last year, they had asked us to come over and shed some light on a few updates we thought they should do to their space.

As you can see, the kitchen is a smaller space and the former homeowners had put in dark countertops, backsplash and flooring and to me it just made the room feel even smaller. We immediately told them what we would do if the home were our own- brighten it up!

White cabinets, countertops, backsplash, lighter paint, and new light flooring.

And our awesome friends trusted our judgment and told us we could do whatever we wanted with the space; from picking out all finishing selections to full project execution.

So we decided we were going to re-paint the cabinetry, add some simple hardware, add a light backsplash, and replace the countertop and flooring. In the end we decided on:

Cabinetry Color | Benjamin Moore, White Dove
Backsplash | The Tile Shop, Imperial Gris Gloss Ceramic Subway
Hardware | Home Depot, Bauhaus 3 in. (76mm) Stainless Steel Bar Pull
Granite | Twin Cities Discount Granite, White Ice Granite

What we didn’t realize was that there would be nice hardwood floors under it all. At first we had recommended that we do a nice light hexagon ceramic or wood-looking tile. Jamie and I were almost certain there wouldn’t be good floors under the tile, being it was so much higher than the other rooms. But as we started breaking up the tile floor, we found more and more and more tile. Jamie wasn’t impressed. haha! And mostly he was a little nervous of asbestos. So we called in the big guys, asbestos professionals. And of course, that’s exactly what it was. So we had to have professionals come into remove the flooring for us.

Once the flooring was removed, there was layers of glue that another company had to come in to sand down and refinish.

We took the cabinetry home to paint while the other company was in dealing with the floors. We got the backsplash up and once once the floors were removed, we had the granite installed. And in the end- we couldn’t have been happier!
