The similarities between styling a house and a wedding
our story
First things first, the cliff notes version of how my husband and I met. After college, I moved in with 5 of my college girlfriends into a rental home in St. Louis Park. We were all starting our first "big girl jobs" and were excited to explore the city. Little did we know, we moved next door to a house with 4 dudes who were just a year older than us. We all became fast friends, and one thing led to another, and the boy next door, Anthony, and I started dating. Anthony proposed in February 2019 at an escape room in front of some of our closest friends, and it was a memory I'll cherish forever. The day after we got engaged, I was already in wedding planning mode - couldn't wait to marry this man!

After booking all of our vendors, it was time for the fun part - the details. The first step I took when planning the mood for our wedding was breaking out each space and coming up with a vision of each area. This included countless hours on Pinterest, creating mood boards/concept boards for each area, etc. Because I am a visual person, I actually used a large, cork board and pinned our bridesmaid dress colors, suit colors, flower inspo, invites, etc. all up on the same board to ensure they complemented one another.

Once the vision was complete - we started sourcing and finding items that we wanted to bring into the day. There were many Facebook marketplace finds, a few things we rented from Rustic Elegance (our coordinator/decor vendor), We've Got It Covered, Ultimate Events, and others we purchased from various places - Target clearance section, Amazon, Ikea, etc. I also custom-made all of our signage with my Cricut Explore Air 2, which was a super fun DIY project!

One thing that was really important to both of us was that our wedding had unique pieces to it that meant a lot to one of us, or us as a couple. A favorite spot of mine was our memory/remembrance station. Instead of a typical table setup, we used some old crates, bolted them together, and used that to showcase the people we missed the most on the big day. We styled this with some vases, fresh florals, and candles to give it an additional textural layer. From the first look to all of the details in between, we wanted to make it us. I decided to prank Anthony with a fake first look... sending one of his groomsmen in a dinosaur suit to break the ice.

And when the day came, it was time to bring the vision to life! We hired Rustic Elegance to run our day of coordination and couldn't have been more thankful. They truly took my mood boards, planning & preparation to the next level. We both were close to tears when seeing the reception space for the first time on the big day.
