Becoming a mom has given me a whole new circle of friends.
You have the friends you grew up with, and then your high school friends, then your college friends, work friends, blog friends, and now I’ve got my mom friends. Thinking about all those different groups of friends puts a big smile on my face. All these people have influenced and helped form me into the person that I am today. And the ones that help keep my spirits high, motivated, and grounded on the daily.
My mom friends are different than any other sort of friends I have. I can vent to them about anything, cry to, laugh and pee my pants with, and no matter what they never judge me. Or at least my mom friends don’t judge, I should say. They totally accept the fact that we mommas are all pretty insane. Those hormones, you never know which way they are going to take our days sometimes. Ha! Something Jamie will never understand.
My girlfriend, Jen from Paisley and Sparrow, and I met a couple of years back at an event. We both had booths at the event and tables across from one another. She was all cute and prego with her first kid, Roy, and I had just had Greyson and could feel her pain. So I warned her what she was in for and we’ve been best friends ever since. It’s kinda funny because it honestly feels like she’s been in my life for as long as I can remember. She just gets me and knows everything about me.
Jen and her girlfriend, Michelle from Thrift Stylist, decided to get a group of mommas together to eat tacos, drink margaritas and ‘taco about it. Get it? Haha, I thought it was such a clever idea! And margaritas and tacos are always a good idea.
I only knew one other momma at the meetup, and I almost didn’t make it to the event because you know, mom duties came up Saturday morning and I was running late as usual and almost said screw it! But I knew how much I needed this day and good energy around me, so I made it, even if I was almost an hour late.
And it was so wonderful to expand my momma tribe, and it was exactly what I needed on that day to lift my spirits. These ladies were all so lovely, and it was so good to hear about their experiences, love, and pain that they’ve had or are going through right now. We went around the table and had to say our favorite thing and our least favorite thing about being a mom. It tugged at my heartstrings to hear about what all these moms experiences. And reminded me that we have to love on one another that much more. Life’s a battle. It really opened up my eyes and perspective. And it felt good to open up and let some things out myself as well.
Beautiful momma’s from left to right…
