We wrapped up a master bathroom remodel on Lake Minnetonka this fall, and it was a fun one! Our clients love their view and have been updating their home to make it more their style, so they were ready to move into the master bathroom. Since they are both pilots and stay in hotels often for work, they were inspired by clean and modern hotel bathrooms and wanted to incorporate that feel into their home. Let’s check out the designs for this bathroom…
Designs
In this master bathroom, our clients were looking for chrome finishes and a clean feel. They loved more modern lines, with elements of spa-like serenity with warmer gray tones and whites. To maximize space in the bathroom, they also wanted to change out their door for a sliding barn door.
Vanity Elevation
With the vanity, our clients wanted two sinks and lots of lighting. Another important element was an outlet in one of the middle drawers for storing electronic toothbrushes and curling irons, hairdryers, etc.
Shower + Tub Elevation
The layout of the bathroom stayed pretty similar, but the large outdated tub got switched for a freestanding tub. Also, the shower got a facelift with new tile and a more open glass door.
Before & After
Our clients told us when we finished this bathroom that, “It is calm and peaceful and looks so much bigger than before.” We love this statement because it’s so true, and the space feels completely different. So, let’s get into the before and after and see how this bathroom transformed…
Before
The previous vanity was short and very functional for our client’s lifestyle. They wanted more practical storage and the ability to hide away items on the counter. Poor lighting over the vanity was dated and had to go.
After
Now the vanity feels fresh and modern with new sinks, a quartz countertop, chrome faucets, and sleek hardware. The grey cabinetry makes the space feel warm, yet clean and timeless.
Before
The entrance to the bathroom was a door that covered up the tub. It always got in the way when entering the bathroom or when standing at the vanity.
After
Now, this custom barn door built by Jamie separates the space, keeps the door out of the bathroom, and adds character to the room.
The door inspiration was a coastal feel rather than a typical reclaimed wood barn door. It was then painted in Tricorn Black by Sherwin Williams for a timeless and classy color.
Before
The gold shower door and fiberglass insert weren’t our client’s style, and they dated the bathroom.
After
With subway tile in a herringbone pattern and a clear glass door, the shower feels much more open and bright. Gray porcelain floor tile provides a neutral and timeless base for this bathroom.
Before
The built-in tub wasn’t used very often and was taking up a lot of space in this bathroom.
After
A new freestanding tub and deck mounted tub filler make the tub a statement in this room. The curved lines and modern design of the tub also make the space feel bigger.
Into the Details
We are always so impressed with our tile guy Mike of Aurora Tile Works! He did an amazing job with this herringbone tile layout, and the shower looks incredible. The Kohler chrome shower head makes this space much more functional, and the niche is great for storing shower products. Marble hexagon shower floor tile brings in the gray tones and makes for a luxurious look in the shower.
Single handle faucets make for easy use, and the chrome finish adds a clean and modern element to the vanity. Updated towel bars and toilet paper holders are from the same collection as the faucets and help bring the whole look together.
A LED mirror with touch on/off activation brings additional light to this space. Our clients love the mirrors they often see in hotels and were inspired to add one to their own home. It’s a great option to brighten up the space and make it easy to turn on and off.
Modern glass sconces over the mirror tie into the chrome faucets and fixtures, while adding more light to the space.
