The hardest thing we learned about living with no kitchen was the loss of space. Making dinner in your laundry room for 4+ months is hard due to space, but besides space, it wasn’t all that bad. Everyone kept saying that we must be enjoying going out to eat all the time, but the funny thing was that we ate at home just as much as we had before we started our remodel.
We have five staple pieces of cookware that we used every night to cook and we were able to make pretty much the same food as we had before.
If you’re going through a kitchen remodel, we wanted to share with you how you can still cook at home with these essentials throughout your remodel!
Buy a Rice Maker
With a rice maker or Insta- pot, you’ll be able to cook up anything you need in a matter of minutes. We don’t own an Insta-pot, but we cook a lot more than just rice in our rice maker. We eat a lot of stir-fry, so the rice cooker is something we use all the time and love. All you have to do is throw your rice into the maker with some water and walk away. The best part is that it’s the easiest thing to clean, unlike trying to cook it on your range and then burning your pots and pans. We even use it for just our vegetables or hotdishes. It’s amazing!

Get an Electric Griddle
Our griddle is another appliance we couldn’t live without. Kitchen or not, we use this all the time too for pancakes and eggs in the morning and grilled cheeses for lunch.

Or a Skillet
We use our skillet a lot too. It’s just like your griddle, but if you’re a messy cook like me, I enjoy this one more for cooking my meats and sautéing my vegetables. Anything you need to cook on a range, you can cook on your skillets and griddles.

Get out your Grill
We make tacos and fajitas all the time since they’re such an easy thing to cook up. We especially love fajitas, since all you need is five ingredients: meat, bell peppers, onions, salsa, and tortillas. You can toss it all on the grill and it’s ready in minutes. We live in Minnesota and renovated our kitchen during the coldest months of the year and still had our grill out and were cooking outside.
Get Slow Cooking with your Crockpots
The staple that we all have and love, the crockpot. Absolutely the best thing about a crockpot meal is that when you come home; there is no cooking to do! The food is done, and there’s little clean up too. We made a ton of soups, hot dishes, and even just let our meat slow cook in our crockpots.

And remember, this is all just temporary! Keep your eye on the prize, a newly remodeled kitchen… and it’ll all be worth it!
