I am so excited for today’s post because we can finally reveal our new patio door!
The only door on our main level that was still rocking the beige vibes while the rest of our windows and doors had been upgraded to all-black. So as you can imagine it stood out and bothered me every time I looked at it.
And it was visible from when you walked into our front door, the kitchen, and the living room. The lock and screen door was also broken, lacking both form and function so this upgrade was long overdue.

Patio Door: A-Series Design
We use this patio door almost every day and within the summer months, multiple times a day, whether it’s grilling year-round or running out to play in those summer months as this door leads us to our deck, pool, and backyard.
Considering that we use this one thing every day, we knew we wanted to have a gliding opening. We also opted for a gliding opening instead of a patio door swing to not take up any valuable real estate on our deck.
Andersen now offers a contemporary or traditional option for their A-Series patio doors. The contemporary option offers narrower sight lines to let in more light and contemporary accessories for a bold look.
The hardware we chose is “Anvers” in black, one of Andersen’s more contemporary options. This patio door is available in hinged or gliding.
We chose the gliding style because it doesn’t take up any space inside or outside the room.
Some additional features to note: panels with smaller bottom rails, black interlock (gliding doors only), contemporary glass stops, and contemporary interior & exterior grilles.
We had a pro installer come out to our home to walk us through the different design options, which was super helpful. Although Jamie is a general contractor, we chose to hire a specialist to assist with the installation.
This is what these guys specialize in, and even better – warranty their work for up to two years.
We knew we wanted the A-Series for our patio door because they are the best-performing, most energy-efficient windows and doors Andersen has ever offered. They are available in a wide range of exterior colors, trim choices, natural wood species, painted interiors, and rich factory-finished stain options.
Most importantly, for MN winters, these windows have the best-in-class glass options, including triple-pane glass and HeatLock® technology for even greater energy efficiency. MN is a four-season state, so energy-efficient doors, like the A-Series, utilize less natural resources and allow you to save money on your energy bills.
When it came to the design aesthetic we wanted it to match the recently installed windows and doors within our sport court. We wanted a contemporary design style with clean lines and a narrow frame with the most wide expanse of glass to let the light in. We also knew we wanted black flush mount hardware to blend in with the patio door frame.
Being we have a pool out back, and three little kids, the locking mechanism was equally as important to us. We chose the Auxiliary double foot lock with two hook bolts above the deadbolt to add weather tightness and enhanced security —and we added an auxiliary foot lock for extra security and airflow. (The lock can be set when the patio door is open for secure venting.)
Not only do we love the modern design, but we also love the flush mount hardware and premium rollers that are not only functional but beautiful! Andersen products are designed to help customers bring their vision to life with customization options that offer incredible possibilities and inspire creativity.
Andersen has been providing innovation, quality, and craftsmanship for nearly 120 years which is why Andersen has the best selection of contemporary doors.
Patio Door: Installation
The installation process was fantastic with the help of an Andersen Certified Contractor. The installation ensures that we have a weathertight seal, proper operation, and energy efficient.
Andersen Certified Contractors are hand-picked by Andersen’s team of experts and receive product training and installation resources. With a Certified Contractor, you’ll have access to their 2-year limited installation warranty and financing options for your project.
Vetted, trained, and backed by the industry leader, Certified Contractors have extensive window and door replacement knowledge to make any project a success.
This was a full-day experience! And I have so much respect for these pro installers who did these through the cold MN winter months, rain or shine.
And as you can see this isn’t a one-man job. Another positive as to why to leave this to the professionals.
They have a system in place and work and communicate effectively and efficiently.
After
I mean … what a difference this look gave to the overall vibe of this area. Every morning when I walk down the stairs I just stare and am in awe.
Who would have known you can love a patio door so much? I can’t believe we lived so long with that beige door that did not flow with the rest of the home.
We recently had a friend over who was grabbing something off the deck and as he opened the patio door his first comment was, “Wow – this door slides nice.” ha! We couldn’t agree more. It’s the little things in life.
