We wrote about this same topic and perspective from my side…ways to steal hotel designs, and I thought it’d be fun to ask from my brother’s perspective.
Our grandparents owned two hotels plus a restaurant and our parents owned a motel and restaurant. So we were born and raised in the hospitality industry.
Anyways, I asked Noah his perspective on hotel living and here’s what he had to say.
One thing I did have the luxury of was staying in nice hotels. I have always had the fondest memories of hotels going all the way back to hockey trips, sleepovers with my cousin John at our Grandpa and Grandma Brandt’s hotels, to when I was in the drug game and stayed in nice hotels around the country.
It was just something I always liked to splurge on because there is little you can compare to a cozy hotel stay.
From my personal experiences, as well as some of my friends recommendations, I have a list of 8 ideas that you can take from a hotel and install it into your personal home.
1. Incorporate a Rain Head
Probably the easiest and most common things to do is adding in a “rain head” and/or extra shower heads in your master bathroom shower. You can do the over head option “rain head” or the his & her options having a shower head on both sides, as well as having an extra 1/2/3 heads below the normal one or even having the standard plus an attached 2nd head on a hose. Choose the options you prefer and fit your budget best.
2. Makeup Vanity
Make up cabinet/mirror is another great option if you have a female in the home or want to sell to a family. This is a countertop with one drawer but open leg room below, nothing on top, and a mirror. This is a great option if you have the space.
3. Heated Floors
Heated floors is another common feature to move to your home. You need to install it below the tile, and it can also be added to your shower as well. Wi-Fi controllers now exist, not a bad option if it makes sense for your climate.
4. His and Her Entrances to the Bathroom
Ideally you could have separate bathrooms if cost and space permits, but if not if your layout allows just having two entrances to your bathroom instead of one. Its a cool feature and is very convenient for couples having two ways in and out especially when getting ready in the morning.
5. Sound System
Installing a TV, or speakers/stereo, or both in your bathroom. Its nice to watch/listen to when getting ready, showering, or relaxing in a nice long bath.
6. Wet Bar
Having a nice wet bar or mini fridge is a nice addition for a person/couple who entertain, enjoy the occasional party/drink, or both.
7. Motorized Blinds
Motorize curtains/blinds is another great convenience and a cool feature to add to your home. Having a light switch instead of the strings/metals is cleaner and more convenient.
8. Top of the Line Comforter
Better sheets/comforter specifically Egyptian cotton or silk can help make a normal bed feel a lot nicer and more luxurious without costing several thousand dollars.
The is a reason hotels make you feel the way you do when you stay at them is because they are luxurious and comfortable and there is no reason you can bring that same feel to your home. If you like any of these ideas give them a try or start to pay attention at what you love when you stay at hotels in the near feature and start to think of what you can take back home with you.
