Rise and shine! We are so excited to be back on WCCO this morning sharing some fun new tutorials with you guys.
The Christmas cards are flowing into your mailbox, and nothing makes me more happy. Even with social media keeping us up to date with what’s going on in all of our friends’ lives there’s just something about getting those cards.
And I’m sure, if you’re like me, you have no idea where to put all of the cards so you just start taping them onto your wall, fridge, or cabinets and hate it. Today I wanted to share with you a few fun DIY ways to hang your cards in style this year. Bonus, they all cost under $10.
Christmas Card Tree
Free tree branches, heck YES! And best of all, you can use the branches that you spray painted gold or silver from your Thanksgiving decor. Find some birch trees, berries, and pine needles out in your yard. Throw them all into in a cute pot or vase, and call it a day! Super simple and best of all – FREE.
Frames & Chicken Wire
Another great way to hang your cards is simply by taking chicken wire and placing it behind an old picture frame or creating your own wooden frame. Cut to size of frame, and secure with a stapler. We used these clipping sheers to easily cut the wire. Be careful because that stuff is sharp!
Greenery Wreaths
I love, love, love using fresh greenery during the holidays. Best of all it’s not just Christmas decor, but winter decor so it’ll last you until spring.
Another simple way to hang your cards is by taking wire, creating a circle, securing some fresh greens on 1/4 of the ring and then leaving the rest of the ring open to hang your cards. And then once the holiday season is over, you can just take down the cards and you still have some fun winter wreaths for the rest of the winter. The wire doesn’t show up very well, but I used gold wire I got from Michaels. The greenery I clipped off of trees outside and threw in a few berry branches I found, secured with wire, and tied a little burlap knots on the ends. And of course, you can make these a lot larger than the size I did so you don’t have to make as many. I wrapped the gold wire around a five gallon bucket to make sure my circle was nice and straight.
You can also take the greenery and wrap it into a circle securing with wire and then clip your cards onto the greenery. And/or mix and match a few of these all along your walls, like we made for the Twin Cities Moms Blog Santa with Donuts event. This would look just as adorable on a wall in your home.
Wood Planks
Wondering what to do with those scrap pieces of wood laying all over your garage? Well, you know how much we love our wooden planks! Take a few pieces of your scrap wood, secure together and then tie twine or rope all around the board with no rhyme or reason. And then ta-da! You can hang your Christmas cards onto the twine. Super simple and inexpensive.
Hope you can use a tip or two and create a stylish display for your Christmas cards this year. Make sure to tag us so we can give you some love. Can’t wait to see what you guys come up with!
