When we bought our home last year one of the things Jamie wanted to do was make the exterior a look more custom. One of the main things that had to go was the color in general. I don’t actually mind it, but Jamie doesn’t love the color of our siding because at certain times of the day he thinks it looks a little pink. Also, he wanted to bring in a bit of a craftsman look and do something different with the gables, adding board and batten or shakes.
We checked out the HardiePanel® vertical siding from James Hardie® because it’s available in textured, smooth, and stucco, which opens up a ton of options. Coupled with HardieTrim® boards, it is widely used to capture rustic HardieTrim® batten board features, while its clean lines add style to strong, contemporary designs.
So first we’re starting with color! We went to their website and chose three of our favorite samples of siding here that we thought would best match the look and style we want. We chose Arctic White, Autumn Tan, and Aged Pewter. We’re leaning towards the Arctic White and Aged Pewter, but if we don’t decide to do our full home right away and just do the gables first, the Autumn Tan is a close match to what we have now.
The James Hardie® product line offers a versatile collection of profiles, textures, widths, and colors to grace homes with authentic character in the tradition of great American home design. We love working with companies that are committed to innovation! We know that will allow for timeless designs and uncompromising performance.
Because no homeowner wants to redo their siding every year.
That’s the cool thing about James Hardie ColorPlus® Technology; their finishes deliver the ultimate in aesthetics and performance to help keep homes looking beautiful longer than field-applied paint. And multiple coats of color are baked onto the board for a strong bond that can resist chipping, peeling, cracking, and fading for years.
Here’s some of the inspiration we pulled from James Hardie. We love the custom craftsman looks, light and bright siding complimented with the natural wood tone front door.
Only James Hardie siding and trim are Engineered for Climate®, specifically designed to withstand the climate where the products are used. That’s comforting to know in our crazy Minnesota winters our home will maintain a consistent look for years to come.

Super cool!! I agree, more expensive but worth every penny for the quality.
Great pics. I myself got new siding last year. I had initially got a quote from pella, but shopped around. There is a locally owned business called conservation construction that had a way more reasonable price, but they did provide james hardie. A expensive siding, but beautiful.
