Bathroom Reveal
It’s always fun to dream up spaces for clients, but as Morgan’s mentioned before, sometimes it’s harder to pick things for your own home. My husband Anthony and I have lived in our current home for just over three years and have done a lot of simple updates like paint colors, light and bathroom fixtures, accent walls, etc.
Before
When we first moved in, I went on a painting spree and painted our entire main level, so the bathroom got a fresh coat of paint at that point, and I also painted the cabinetry white as a temporary fix. After three years of living with it like this, we were ready for a more permanent update.
We know this home isn’t our forever home, so we opted for a refresh versus a full remodel. We decided to update the bathroom flooring, vanity, light fixture, mirror, towel holder, robe hooks and added in some open shelving.
The Process
First, we started by demoing out the old vanity. I think it was probably original to the house, and even after painting it, wasn’t the most functional.
So, out it went! Since it was so old, we had to do some drywall patching behind it to get it ready for the new vanity. We also took out the builder-grade mirror and did some patching behind that as well!
For the bathroom flooring, I knew I wanted to keep it cost-effective and easy to maintain, and we landed with this LVT from Menards. It gave off the tile look while being easy to install and cost effective. Anthony and my dad put in the floors in a few hours.
After floors were done, the trim and quarter round was replaced and we were ready for the details. I also went ahead and painted the entire room with Sherwin Williams Sea Salt.
Plumbing
Next up, we hired a plumber to come out and re-install our toilet, vanity, countertop, and faucet. The Home Depot prefab vanity and countertop were perfect for the space.
I knew I wanted lighter wood to contrast with the dark floors and this was the perfect solution.
Fixtures
I found the new mirror at Target and went with the Delta Trinsic accessories for that modern, matte black finish throughout. Our old light fixture was very outdated, so we found this one from Wayfair that totally transformed the lighting in the space.
Oddly enough, our bathroom has lighting that comes from the ceiling vs. the walls, so we decided to just roll with that and find something that made more sense. I also found floating shelves from Target that matched the vanity perfectly for above the toilet!
We also put up new, more modern crown moulding that gives off more brightness in the space, as the old moulding was decorative and not really our style.
The Finished Product
I’m obsessed with this new space and haven’t stopped staring at it since we wrapped it up a few weeks ago. Now, what project to tackle next?!
