We just got our Christmas decorations down in time to put up another one of my favorites, Valentine’s. With less than a month away it’s time to talk love day.
There are so many fun DIY Valentine’s out there. Most recently I stopped into one of my favorite stores, Papersource. They had these adorable heart chalkboards and even though they didn’t retail for very much, I knew I had all the supplies at home to make them! So last Friday night Jamie and I had a date night in the garage making our Valentine’s. It doesn’t get much simpler than this…
DIY Valentine Chalkboard
Materials:
- Wood (we used plywood)
- Chalkboard paint
- Twine
- Foam brush
- Jig saw
- White chalk
We had a scrap piece of plywood laying around that I used for the heart forms. I free hand drew a bunch of random sized hearts. There are a ton of free images out there that you could use to trace but I don’t like things perfectly sized.
Once I had my hearts drawn out I took a jig saw and cut the outline. When cutting out the rounded part of the heart you need to be forceful and go fast or you will end up with pointed edges. 🙂
Once my hearts were cut out I sanded them down and took a drill and drilled holes into the top of my hearts so that I could hang them. Another fun idea instead is to put magnets on the back.
And bam! I almost got myself a couple of heart chalkboards!
And this is what happens when your husband is your photographer… 1 out of the hundreds of inappropriate photos… 🙂
Last thing to do was to paint the boards with black chalkboard paint.
Once the paint dried I pushed the twine through the holes and knotted the edges. There I had myself our Valentine’s. And of course homemade Valentine’s are so much better than store bought ones.

Last Year
Last year was a really special Valentine’s. Jamie and I told our families the big news!
We had been holding it in for over a month and we couldn’t wait to share it with our family. We gave them each a bottle of champagne letting them know our family was about to grow!
And now this year we get to celebrate our little bundle of love!
 Happy Valentine’s from the Molitors!
Thank you Sam!! So true!! Thanks for stopping by!
Aw! I love the chalk board idea, so simple & though it’s “valentine’s day” themed, it could totally be used year round. Also, what a cute way to tell your family about the new little one. Thank you for sharing, XOXO, Sam.
Thanks so much for checking us out! And thank you for the adorable freebies! Love them all!!
