Hi everyone! My name is Kayla, and I’m soooo excited to let you know a little more about who I am! Joining the c2s team has been the BEST decision ever. It’s only been a few weeks, and I constantly remind myself how lucky I am to have had the opportunity to join this crew!
A little bit about me – I grew up in the southern suburbs of the Twin Cities (Apple Valley). I went to Eastview High School and, while there, was fully committed to my competitive swimming career. Swimming was a HUGE part of my life – I started in elementary school on a club swim team, and from there was hooked on the sport.
Post-high school, I went to swim D1 at Iowa University. While I enjoyed my time there, I had a shoulder injury that prevented me from keeping up with the D1 athlete lifestyle and ended up transferring to Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN.
The move to Gustavus was a big life change for me. I was so much happier at a small college, making close connections with people, healing from my shoulder injury (and, in time, joining their swim team), and being closer to home.
While at Gustavus, I majored in sociology and anthropology. For those who don’t know what that is – it’s basically the study of people, relationships, and how we work.
I took my background in studying people post-college and landed a job in customer service at an Event Management company. After my first year in that role, I ended up moving into the company’s operations side as an Event Manager.
During my last four years there, I had focused on project management, logistics coordination, floor plans, etc. At the same time, I started working for a wedding coordination company, Rustic Elegance.
After a few months of working there, I realized how much I appreciated the small business feel and helping couples create their dream wedding plans. I also took over their social media and blogging and helped with brand management/content creation.
The creative side of myself was slightly hindered at the corporate level. So I started thinking about potential opportunities to help that side flourish!
While planning corporate events is fun at times, the long hours became taxing on my mental health, especially with COVID in the mix. In April, I was placed on a temporary furlough. I was distraught at that point – I had worked SO hard on my career, and due to COVID, almost all of our events were canceled.
During that time, I had reached out to c2s about any part-time opportunities that they may have had available, but the timing didn’t work out. Flash forward a few months later, I reached out again to c2s, and the rest of the cards played themselves out accordingly…and here I am!
I have always been someone that friends and family lean into as an eye for styling areas in their home. My husband and I have been slowly remodeling our first home together (including me painting almost every wall…), and it’s been so much fun.
I’ve been known by many to take an empty space and be able to visualize in my head what the space could be with a little extra love and attention. While working for Rustic Elegance, we specialize in taking empty tents and styling them to become the perfect and unique wedding venue. I absolutely LOVE styling and can’t wait to bring more of that to c2s!
All in all – I couldn’t be more thankful or excited about what’s to come with this new journey at c2s. I can’t wait to share more with you about who I am and what I’m about! Cheers to this new team and adventure!
Welcome Kayla 😍 I have been reading this blog since long. Especially great write up by Morgan, Jello and Tatertots.
