I am on the hunt for the perfect fabric to reupholster this statement couch that my friend Kara Hallie, from the modern Bohemian, is going to reupholster for me. (Keep in mind the carpet, curtains, and paint are going to look completely different in this room once the chair has been reupholstered). One of my favorite resources for decor and design ideas is One Kings Lane. I have been utilizing their Home Décor Resource to inspire my decor and educate myself on the history of different furniture pieces.
The former owners, of the home we just bought, left us with most of their furniture. A lot of the pieces have a ton of potential, others…not so much. If the piece has a unique shape or style, it always has potential, you just have to look past the fabric and texture…which is sometimes is hard for my husband to see. 🙂
From looking at the One Kings Lane Guide, I could see that the tufted upholstery of the couch leaving wood frames exposed, lacy borders, serpentine lines, S-scrolls, flowers, exploded in laminated rosewood reflects the Victorian style of the 1800’s. I want to keep the decor of the house with a modern classic Victorian design. Victorian decor ideas are always accentuated by the presence of antique and ornate style.
I want a strong and bold colored fabric so that it is an accent to the room. I am leaning towards a blue velvet with diamond or button tufting. Traditional and classic furniture looks better with diamond tufting while button tufting on mid-century or modern furniture. Being this couch is from a classic era, I will probably go with diamond. I love the design elements shape and style of this couch. These couches, below, from One Kings Lane are a perfect example of what I am looking for. What do you think?
