Spread the love.

Now that we know we need to replace our deck sooner than later this spring, it’s design time!

We decided that we are going maintenance-free, due to our harsh Minnesota winters, we’re over re-staining or repainting our decks each year. In the near future, we know we want to swap out the overall color of our exterior, so we’re keeping that in mind when deciding on what color we want the deck to be. And what that is we’re not quite sure, but we know it’ll be in the color scheme of black, white and wood. With that in mind, we decided that we want to go with a light natural wood deck and black railing.

Here are the options we’re debating between:

  1. AZEK Weathered Teak
  2. AZEK Tigerwood
  3. Trex Toasted Sand
  4. Trex Rope Swing

Which wood color is your favorite?

And of course, we’re already thinking about the functionality behind our deck. One of the things it lacks right now is comfort. And this is a place we spend all of our summer months. So we wanted to add in a more cozy element. For the past few years, all we have had is a table and chairs. Being we have the space, we are going to add in a gas fire pit table surrounded by couches.

We spotted the Cove Linear Gas Fire Pit from The Outdoor Greatroom Company and immediately fell in love. Our next favorite thing is that they’re based right here out of Minnesota, right in our backyard.

How beautiful is this natural gray concrete look for a table fire pit? It gives a perfect look to finish off the style of the space. And we love that it’s more than just a fire pit but acts as a table as well.

We also love the look of their Kenwood Linear Dining Height Gas Fire Pit Table. Jamie’s been meaning to try to make one of these for the past five years, but it has yet to happen. But we love the ambiance that this would give to any dinner.

Samples for the deck are en route, and once we have made a decision, it’s demo time! And you bet we’ll share all the tutorials we can when it comes to how to demo and rebuild a maintenance-free, composite deck.
