A few weekends ago, the c2s crew headed to Yankton, SD, to visit Morgan’s brother Noah in prison. Since I have been reading the blogs and following Noah’s story for a while now, it was a cool experience to visit him.
I have never been to a prison before, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. When we pulled up to the prison, I was surprised that it was right across from the high school and football field in town. In addition, the area where the prison is located used to be a college campus. This fact was interesting to learn because it made sense why the buildings were more architecturally interesting than I expected, and the yard was full of trees and well-kept plants.
Once we got into the visitation room, I was surprised at how open and light it was. In my mind, I was expecting a room that looked more like an interrogation space, but this room was large with lots of chairs and even TVs. We sat down and waited for the guards to call Noah’s name over the PA system.
Then, the story-telling began. It was interesting how open and honest Noah is, and he shared a lot about how he got into drugs when he began selling, and what life is like in prison. One of the aspects I found super cool was Noah’s overall positivity. When thinking about how most people would respond to being a prisoner, he is the complete opposite. He was joking around, laughing, and talking about dreams he has for the future.
Topher also asked great questions, so for most of our visit, I just sat back and listened. I felt like I learned so much during our visit about Noah’s life leading up to being in prison and what life is like there. It was cool to hear Noah’s dreams for the future when he gets out and ideas he’s already starting to work on. It was a great trip, and I’m so glad our team was able to visit him.
I look forward to what’s ahead and reading more of Noah’s blogs!
