Keep your finger on the pulse of trending décor in 2017. Whether you’re notorious for constantly updating your home furnishings or simply want to add some stylish fixtures to your home, these four trends are sure to kick-start your new year.

Here’s what’s in — and what’s out — for home trends in 2017.

Velvet

Add instant glamour by using velvet fabric and texture. If you’re a sucker for mid-century modern décor, consider purchasing a side chair with that mid-century look, or spice up simple seating with velvet seat cushions. Are you looking for a more contemporary treatment? Glam up your bedroom by upholstering your headboard with velvet and finishing with nailhead trim. The juxtaposition between masculine and feminine materials make it a perfect match for contemporary spaces. If you’re not ready to commit to that velvet couch or armchair, start small by adding some velvet throw pillows to your bed or sofa.

Jewel Tones

Jewel tones consist of saturated colors, such as emerald green, sapphire blue, and ruby red. If you’re looking to create a bold statement wall, dress up your living room with emerald green paint and pair the vibrant hue with polished accessories, like black and white furniture or shimmery gold embellishments. Jewel tones look especially striking in entryways and small spaces, so don’t be afraid to add pops of sapphire blue to white walls or display that eclectic magenta painting that’s been collecting dust in the garage.

Marble Surfaces

This year, marble surfaces are taking center stage among 2017 home décor trends. While marble is a popular material for countertops, tabletops, and flooring, expect the marble motif to show up outside the kitchen too. Take a risk and experiment with this material in your bedroom or living room. Go bold with a statement marble fireplace, pair marble lamp bases with traditional lamp shades or add funky marble candle holders to your bedside table.

Built-in Bars

Built-in bars provide a more permanent solution for those looking to entertain from home. If you get bored of your built-in bar, swap out booze for books and create an eclectic home library. Designing a built-in bar for your home provides the perfect opportunity to incorporate shiny, warm metals to create a unique entertaining space. You can personalize your built-in bar by adding swanky cocktail glasses and knick-knacks to showcase your flair for style.

What’s out?

  • Overly industrial furniture
  • Quote art
