Black Exterior Home Goals

As I was heading over to my brother’s house the other day, I shared a glimpse of the exterior of their home while I was walking in, and everyone seemed to be as obsessed as I am!

They recently revamped the exterior of their home and took it from beige to black, and it is a stunner! We love the clean, sleek modern look…black exterior, black windows and trim, black lighting, and fixtures all complemented with natural wood accents. It is so fitting for the look, style, and feel of the overall design aesthetic of their home too.

When the questions started pouring in, they so graciously offered to  share all of the finishing selections with you for your exterior home needs.

So first, before we dive into details, let’s check out some of the before and afters…same angle, different seasons, same view.

Before & After

I’ve loved their home since the day they bought it years ago. The overall design, inside and out, is so unique and not something you see in any neighborhood. You can tell it was an architect who built it. I believe the former homeowner actually was an architect. And the interior is just as cool as the exterior. Remember one of our first projects when we remodeled the Spa-Like Bath? This is that same home.

And thanks to these guys, I now want to replicate their home for our own.

So, let’s dive into the exterior details!

As we don’t do any exterior at c2s, they hired Craftsman’s Choice to do all of their exterior renovations and said they were a joy to work with!

My sister-in-law has an awesome design style, and she knew exactly what she wanted for the look and feel and worked with them to ensure quality products to get her same look and vision.

They chose James Hardie Board and Batten in an 8″ Smooth Lap Siding and painted it in Sherwin Williams Caviar (satin finish).

If you ask us, this striking trend makes a bold statement on all styles of homes from farmhouses to traditional style homes to glamorous retreats to tiny streamlined cottages in the woods. It’ll fit with your home and will make a statement!

Entry Accents

This moody exterior is the perfect backdrop for their cozy home tucked away in the suburbs of Minneapolis, yet in the woods. Lap siding complemented with cedar wood and metal accents all soften and warm the cool black.

Whereas you’d typically see a lot of black siding with white trim accents, stone, and rustic wood, these guys chose #1 Grade Clear Cedar for the front entry and stained it in Cabot Pacific Redwood.

Windows & Doors

They chose Pella Black windows and doors, to ensure to get the full cohesive black on black look.

One of the goals was to bring more light into their front entryway. They opened this up by adding in a new front door with a four glass window pane. They also added windows to both sides of the front door to increase the natural light into their home.

Fixtures & Accessories

The lights, fixtures, and accessories…the details that you might overlook or not put much thought into yet makes an impact! The modern and contemporary sconces, lights, house numbers, and even doorbell were the perfect fit for the home. And if you’re looking for something similar, here are the links below!
